Impressions of Beijing

After our incredible and very memorable 5 day stop in Beijing we were left with some lasting impressions. Stepping off the train in Beijing was like stepping into a city 50 years into the future on a huge scale, yet the city still offered elements of its original and traditional charm and architecture. Despite being super modern, in many parts of the city it still appeared to be disorganised and chaotic. We also discovered that our egos were topped up with the many Chinese tourist groups wishing to take our picture and say how beautiful we were!

Our only disappointment of Beijing was running out of time (feeling a bit worse for wear after Jojo’s birthday) and not being able to see the biggest attraction in China! The Great Wall! An excuse to return to China perhaps…

Ironically, the day before when we visited the Forbidden city we brought a fan with Chinese writing on it, which we later discovered translated as ‘he who does not visit the Great Wall is considered not a man’!
